Defence and adaptation mechanisms of the intestinal epithelium upon infection

چکیده

The intestinal epithelium is a monolayer of polarized columnar cells that act as border between the host and its environment are first line defence against luminal microbes. In addition to providing physical barrier, possesses multitude active mechanisms fight invading pathogens regulate composition spatial distribution commensals. different epithelial cell types have unique functions in this context, crosstalk with immune system further modulates their intricate antimicrobial responses. organized into clonal crypt units high cellular turnover driven by stem located at base. There increasing evidence anatomical organization, turnover, lineage determination processes essential for barrier maintenance. These can be modulated microbes directly or responses enteric pathogens, resulting rapid efficient adaptation environmental perturbations, injuries, infections. Here we discuss complex host-microbial interactions shape mucosa how maintains re-establishes homeostasis after infection.

Lung defence mechanisms against infection.

The respiratory tract must be open to the environment to allow exchange of gas between air and blood. This renders lhe lungs susceptible to colonization and infection by foreign organisms. It is necessary for lhe lower respiratory tract to have mechanisms to contain and control such foreign material. The gas exchange surface of lhe lung must be thin, delicate and permeable, rhus the mechanisms ...

defence mechanisms of the central nervous system

the close relationship between the immune system and the central nervous system (cns) has been well-studied. the cns regulates almost all the functions of the immune system; however, the effect and/or the control of the immune system on the cns has not been well-studied yet. recent reports suggest that the cns has its own defence mechanism(s). in this review, attempts have been made to discuss ...

The study of microanatomy of intestinal epithelium in the Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis)

The microanatomy of the intestinal epithelium in the Chinese soft-shelled turtle (CST) was studied by light and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The small intestinal epithelium (SIE) was single layered or pseudostratified. The enterocytes contained mitochondria or mitochondria and lipid droplets. The enterocytes were arranged tightly in the apical parts of epithelium and connected by des...

The effect of ovalbumin and mannose-conjugated ovalbumin on the prevention of Salmonella adherence to the intestinal epithelium of chickens

This investigation was designed to determine the effect of intact ovalbumin and mannose-conjugatedovalbumin on the prevention of Salmonella typhimurium adherence to the epithelium of small intestine ofchickens. Mannose-conjugated ovalbumin was produced by Maillard-type reaction between chickenovalbumin and D-mannose at 60°C. The results revealed that incubation up to 96 hrs caused the highestam...

Immune defense mechanisms in the Caenorhabditis elegans intestinal epithelium.

Intestinal epithelial cells provide an essential line of defense for Caernohabditis elegans against ingested pathogens. Because nematodes consume microorganisms as their food source, there has presumably been selection pressure to evolve and maintain immune defense mechanisms within the intestinal epithelium. Here we review recent advances that further define the immune signaling network within...
